Alternative Futures Research Is More than Self-Help Guide

Have worked with Dator for decades, was chair for my MA in alternative futures and Ph.D. on how nested systems evolve, and I’m a consultant in these areas. Suffice it to say there’s much more to alternative futures research than suggested here.

In the sense that everyone can run scenarios, anyone can glimpse images of the future. But that is not thinking like a futurist or alternative futures research.

Futures research includes trends, events, images and actions, with every trend eventually ending. It is about nested systems as evolving system ecologies that have linear and nonlinear directionality with a finite number of probabilistic generic future outcomes.

On my Medium publication, A Passion to Evolve, there are numerous articles dedicated to these topics. The most detailed on alternative futures is Macroscopic Evolutionary Paradigm. Conversely, my article >^ Why the Future Ain’t What it Once Was notes the danger of arm-chair futurists.
